| Northeast Florida State Parks stretch
from Inverness to Fernandina, and from Jacksonville to the Suwannee River. It
has 34 parks, covering roughly 117,643 acres. Special to this area of Florida
are numerous freshwater springs, which are popular areas for canoeing, kayaking,
or a picnic along the banks. At certain times of the year, you can take on the
challenge of Class III rapids. The Northeast Florida State Parks are also the only district on Florida's mainland that allows you to watch the sunrise from the beautiful Atlantic at the Talbot Islands, and enjoy breathtaking sunsets from lovely Cedar Key. If you prefer to stay dry, there is also a 21,000-acre open prairie, which offers a one of a kind wildlife experience in its most natural setting. With the extensive rivers, hammocks, trails, camping, and cultural sites, the Northeast Florida Parks provide a diverse experience for both the novice and advanced outdoors adventurer. |
